The Best Stores For Geek Fashion

Summer is here, and if you’re like me you’re probably thinking that it’s time to switch up your wardrobe a little bit. If so, why not geekify your rail?

I’ve been spending the last two years searching around for the perfect nerdy clothes, and I feel now that I have a good grasp on where to look for the best items on the block. Naturally, you readers may all have different budgets, needs and tastes, so I’ve broken down some of my favourite brands by their suitability level.

PS I would like to preface that this post is not sponsored, I just love these labels a lot. #cannothelpmyself

I didn’t even know that luxury geek clothes were a thing until I came across Blackmilk. They’re probably one of the rare brands that offer beautifully designed evening dresses, skirts and kimonos that you could easily slip on at a professional networking event without getting judged for being too much of a fangirl. You may also know them for their legendary space and galaxy prints, a bug that I've definitely been bitten by.

I myself have invested in a pair of velvet Hogwarts life leggings and a pair of the Star Wars overalls. Both of them are KILLER, and I’ve literally been stopped at cons to ask where I bought my items from. The only caveat is that the store is based in Australia, so it can be a bit of a wait for your items, and some of the more expensive ones may incur a customs charge.

But when that package arrives? Boy, it’s like Santa has come to you personally.

I first came across this brand at Comic Con, when they offered to take a photo of me and the gang on their nifty little green screen. A subsidiary of Hot Topic, EMP has probably one of the widest ranges of collections out there. I personally think that they excel on price, with some of their (frankly) adorable skirts checking in for just over twenty squids. Result!

If of course you’re looking to splurge a little more, then they also have some of the best coats available to check out. Plus, if you sign up to their marketing emails, they nearly always have some sort of offer or promotion going on.

Geeky accessories abound! Loungefly are known for their bags and purses, collaborating with brands like Disney and Warner Bros. My world-famous Groot bag (okay, maybe not ‘world-famous’, but he’s known as my daily travel companion) is from here. Despite being used very consistently for over 18 months, he’s only showing minor signs of wear and tear - which is fantastic.

All their products also come with handy compartments to pop all your cards and items in, making finding what you need as easy as pie. I can guarantee that an investment in one of their products is worth it.

If you’ve not seen the Hogwarts collection from Primark plastered all over Instagram, then you must have been living under a rock. Primark are always up to date with the latest trends in pop culture, so you’re almost always guaranteed to see some merch dedicated to the latest hot show on the block. For instance, I fled down there when the final season of Game of Thrones was on, and I was not disappointed.

From cute crop jumpers to cushions for your bed, you could pretty much kit out your entire bedroom, never-mind just your wardrobe. And of course, Primark is an absolute steal when it comes to price. Just be careful when you go on a spree… it’s very easy to come out with way more than you planned.

Remember, if you’re not a fan of online shopping and would prefer to see items in person, EMP and Loungefly are staples at Comic Con, so you can try before you buy. I also recommend buying some block colour staples to team with your geeky clothing. For example, a black sparkly shirt goes great with my Hogwarts leggings, and my straight leg cropped jeans are a match made in heaven when it comes to my nerdy jumpers.
